Before painting Metamorphic Sunset, I studied the amazing color bands in a large variety of agate rocks. The idea of molten rock becoming frozen in time fascinates me. For this painting, I confined myself to a limited color scheme to keep cohesiveness in the painting inspite of the sense of lots of activity and movement.
